They immigrated to Melbourne, Australia a year after they were married where they had two son’s Jason born 1971 and Aaron born 1973. Mary had been a fashion model for London designer Mary Quant in the late 1950's and appeared on TV.
Thomas Rennie was working on the Westgate Bridge in Melbourne during it's construction and narrowly escaped death. Two years into construction on 15 October 1970, the 367-foot span between piers 10 and 11 collapsed and fell 164 feet to the ground and water below. Thirty-five construction workers were killed and 18 injured, and it remains Australia's worst industrial accident. Many of those who died were on lunch break beneath the structure in workers' huts, which were crushed by the falling span. Others were working on and inside the span when it fell. The whole 2,000-tonne mass plummeted into the Yarra River mud with an explosion of gas, dust and mangled metal that shook buildings hundreds of metres away. Nearby houses were spattered with flying mud. The roar of the impact, the explosion, and the fire that followed, could be clearly heard over 12 miles away.

Hugh Heaney Senior died in Stirling on 10th March 1962, aged 73. He's buried in Ballengeich Cemetery, Stirling.
His grandchildren remember him as a great man with a fantastic personality. He had many jobs over his life including the lamplighter in Cambusbarron. He would take his grandchildren out with him to walk round the streets as he put flame to the gas. A hard worker he continued to work in later life trying his hand at many things, even working in the local rubberworks. Known for his 'gift of the gab' he also used to read fortunes and make life predictions. No one knows if he actually had a genuine gift for this or not but people were keen to listen!
