There is a field in the area known as the famine field and the local historian says it was a field owned by John Quin. Apparently in the late 1840's John obtained a bag of flour during the famine. He was unable to pay for the flour with cash and the field was seized in payment for the bag of flour. As a result it was known locally as the famine field.

Despite the poverty they lived in, both John and Elizabeth lived well past life expectancy of the time. Elizabeth Quin (nee McGrange) died in Clonfeacle on the 10th of May 1874. She was 74 years old. John Quin died in Ballytrodden, Co. Armagh on the 1st of September 1880. He was 76 years old.
